Granulate

Apart from supplying fully engineered fibres, we also offer granulate which is the base product produced in the first step of our fibre production process. The fibres typically have lengths from 2500 to 4000 microns. This is usually expressed in flock size, which correlates to fibre length. The typical content of shot (non-fibrous particles) is about 33%. The granulate is coated with mineral oil (< 0.01%) to prevent dust formation during production.

The high fibre content allows the reduction of wool use in wet processes. The consistency of the flock size gives high bulking values and consistent drainage in wet processes.

Lapinus granulated wool is widely used for acoustic ceiling tiles produced in a wetfelt process and for vacuum formed components, millboards and spray systems. The fibre acts as a process fibre, offers mechanical strength  and provides fire resistance. Granulated wool is also used for insulating twin wall chimney systems for use with oil and gas fuels and the thermal insulation of irregular formed cavities where pre-formed insulation products cannot be used.

Lapinus granulated wool is available in two base colours:

  • The wool with a relative high amount of ironoxide (6%) in its chemical composition is green/grey and is used in industrial applications where colour is not an issue. This granulated wool type is stable up to a 1000 °C and is available in large and medium flock sizes:

Lapinus® 702K2-Roxul®1000 and Lapinus® 702N2-Roxul®1000 are uncleaned granulated mineral fibres with a large flock size (correlating to an estimated fibre length of approximately 4000 microns).

Lapinus® 702N2-Roxul®1000 provides good flow in dry processes due to a higher amount of lubricant.

Lapinus® 706K2-Roxul®1000 has a medium flock size (correlating to an estimated fibre length of approximately 3000 microns).

Lapinus® 706K2-Roxul®1000 is an easy to disperse fibre, allowing good green strength in wet processes.

  • A new generation granulated wool has been developed for the manufacturing of fire protection, thermal, and acoustical materials. The iron oxide level in the chemical composition of granulated mineral wool is low (1%). So its colour is off-white and suitable for applications where this is required. These off-white fibres can be easily mixed with cement and other filler systems given the desired bulk volume and density to the end product.
