Friction

Lapinus is the world's leading supplier of engineered fibres for disc brakes, drum brakes, railway blocks and many other areas where friction is important; such as elevators, escalators, ski lifts and a variety of industrial equipment and machinery.

The inclusion of even small amounts of our fibres in formulations can produce major improvements in the friction material, allowing enhanced performance, reduced cost, or both. Our fibres are engineered so they are very easy to process resulting in optimal contribution to performance.

In low-steel disc pad applications, our fibres are often used in combination with steel fibres. Like steel fibres, our fibres have high thermal stability, making them ideal for high performance applications such as disc brake pads. Due to their moisture and corrosion resistance, however, our fibres also reduce the risk of corrosion and early morning sickness. Moan and groan can also be reduced compared to steel fibres. Due to their low abrasive nature, our fibres also cause less rotor wear compared to steel fibres, which in turn reduces wheel dusting.

For passenger vehicle disc pads, we offer our unique Extreme Low Shot fibres (ELS) for NAO/non-steel (ceramic) formulations. Research shows that low shot content is essential to achieve low pad and rotor wear as well as good noise performance. Lapinus is the only manufacturer capable of producing almost pure mineral fibres - with a shot content of close to 0%.

Our fibres are also an important part of the cocktail of fibres used in non-asbestos organic (NAO) commercial vehicle linings, enhancing the final product in numerous ways.

Lapinus fibres can also help reduce formulation costs by (partly) replacing more expensive components such as AES (biosoluble) ceramic fibres, aramide, steel fibres and potassium titanate. We can suggest the best alternative product, including processing and formulation advice.
