Note Q fibres

August 2010

Over the years we have put emphasis on the distribution of the Health & Safety information to our customers.  In this respect we want to inform you about the following: it is a known fact that our engineered mineral fibres are bio-soluble. In the 2nd half of 2010 this information will be filed in the REACh dossiers. The substance name of our fibres in the REACh dossier is: “Man-made vitreous (silicate) fibres with random orientation with alkaline and alkali earth oxides (Na2O+K2O+CaO+MgO+BaO) content greater than 18% by weight and fulfilling one of the Nota Q conditions”. This is quite a long description which is nowadays often shortened to Note Q or Nota Q fibres.

In order to make clear that our fibres fulfil the note Q requirements we will as from now on refer to Note Q in the  our new SDS according to GHS (Global Harmonization System) for countries outside EU which adopted the GHS. Note Q will also be used in our forthcoming new European SDS according to REACh/CLP.

In future Note Q will also be used in e.g. substances lists in order to distinct man-made mineral fibres with bio-solubility properties according to the description in the CLP from other, standard man-made mineral fibres with lower or no bio-solubility properties.

Altogether this is enough argument to promote this notion and mention “Note Q” in future in our communication with you and the media.  Please find here a sample of the – small – change on the label (top right corner). The product and product name will stay unchanged: the same bio-soluble fibre with the same quality as before.
