Engineered mineral fibres (Note Q)

NAO/non-steel disc pads for automotive applications

For NAO/non-steel (also known as ceramic) disc pads we offer our unique Extreme Low Shot (ELS) and rubber coated fibres. Research showed that low shot content is essential to achieve low pad and rotor wear as well as a good noise performance. A rubber coating enhances the noise performance of our low shot fibres even further. Lapinus is the only manufacturer capable of producing almost pure mineral fibres (with a shot content close to 0%) and we have a unique technology to coat the fibres with a thin rubber layer.

Low-steel disc pads for automotive and railway applications

In low-steel disc pad applications our fibres, unlike steel fibres, provide non-corrosive reinforcement. Like steel fibres, our fibres have high thermal stability, making them ideal for high performance applications such as disc brake pads. Rockbrake fibres have a high melting temperature resulting in a stable friction coefficient over a wide temperature range. A low shot content ensures a low rotor aggression and good noise performance.

Commercial vehicle lining and railway block applications

Our fibres are an important part of the fibre cocktail that is typically used in non-asbestos organic commercial vehicle linings and railway blocks. The fibres can enhance the final product in numerous ways like increased impact strength, reduced cracking, reduced wear and reduced fade.

Industrial and passenger car lining applications

For passenger car linings and industrial friction materials various production processes are used. Dependent on the exact performance requirements and production process different fibre types can be used. The fibres for instance give a positive effect on the extrusion process that is often used to produce passenger car linings.

Clutch applications

The new generation compact clutches require higher temperature resistant reinforcement in order to meet the increased thermal demands. Our low shot fibres can offer this reinforcement in combination with a high wear resistance and low abrasive nature towards the metal counter surface.
